The production and appreciation of beer is part of the living heritage of many communities throughout Belgium. This culture plays a role in their daily lives and during festive events. About 1500 types of beer are produced in the country using different fermentation methods. Since the 80s, craft beer has become particularly popular. Several regions are known for their speci fi c varieties, including Hainaut, the cradle of the Saison beer type, which saw the birth of the Silly family brewery. In addition, beer is used in cooking, and may be associated with certain foods to give new flavors. In addition, beer culture is now seen as a sustainable practice, with recyclable packaging being encouraged and new technologies to reduce water and energy consumption during manufacturing. This Unesco recognition, which will officially be celebrated on 19 May 2017 in Brussels, gives a major visibility to the Belgian brewing art.
