Beau’s feBREWary launches this week at 350+ locations in Ontario and Québec

January 29, 2018 Month-long winter beer celebration kicks off with the release of Ninho do Corvo, a robust coconut porter made with Brazilian craft brewery Weird Barrel

Craft beer fans will want to get to one of the 350+ locations across Ontario and Québec this week that are tapping the inaugural release of feBREWary 2018. The beer is Ninho do Corvo, a coconut robust porter conceived collaboratively with Weird Barrel, a craft brewery from Ribeião Preto, Brazil. Silky and luscious, it was brewed with organic toasted coconut and cacao nibs from South America, for a tapestry of interwoven coconut, coffee and dark chocolate flavours.

The recipe for Ninho do Corvo (Portuguese for crow’s nest) was developed and tested when the Brazilian brewers visited Canada for Beau’s Oktoberfest, but the relationship between Beau’s and Weird Barrel’s João Becker and Rafael Moschetta actually predates the existence of Weird Barrel. A chance meeting in 2013 with some Beau’s folks at Montréal’s Mondial de la Bière – followed by a visit to the Vankleek Hill brewery – inspired Becker and Moschetta to create a brewery and beers to call their own in 2014.

“Back then we dreamed up the idea of making a collaborative beer with Beau’s,” says Becker. “Weird Barrel is a small Brazilian brewpub that produces unusual beers, and there’s no one better than Beau’s to join with and brew a beer as unusual as Ninho do Corvo. To get to make this beer was incredible, and the results could not be better: a classic beer style, with a dash of Brazil-inspired ingredients.”

Ninho do Corvo pours nearly opaque black, with subtle garnet undertones and a tan foam. The aroma consists of pronounced toasted coconut, with secondary impressions of cocoa and dark malt. The dessert-like flavours lend to pairing with sweet delights such as coconut cream pie or dark chocolate truffle, but the beer also works well with main courses like coconut curry or shrimp, or with a small plate of Beemster cheese.

This brand-new beer from Beau’s will be on tap this week across Ontario and Québec at 350+ feBREWary partners – to see a full list, visit beaus.ca/feBREWary. It is also available by the bottle beginning Feb. 1 at the Beau’s brewery in Vankleek Hill, while quantities last. Beau’s month-long feBREWary celebrations will continue next week with the release of Cherry Revue, a tart-n-tangy easy to enjoy fruit gose.
