Hey everyone! Hope you had a good weekend! We had a pretty eventful one here in Boston between Extreme Beer Fest weekend and the Super Bowl. The former brings in a lot of beer focused tourists to the area and as always we’re out to win over new fans to our work. We saw a lot of interest in our new Double Crossroader (cans still available at the taproom), we blew through the last of our Six Seam (until next time), and we saw a surprising (and satisfying) number of mugs of our Munich Dark Lager, Brunhilda going across the bar. But I want to take a moment to step back and highlight a milestone for us. Our recent canning run of Four Seam has the message of of “BATCH 50!!” printed on the bottom. That’s right, in just two years time, we’ve brewed 50 batches… of just Four Seam. So I wanted to take this week to highlight some of those numbers from our biggest selling flagship.
-Since our first official Four Seam brewday on January 10th 2017 we’ve surpassed 50 batches on January 8th 2019, just before it’s second anniversary. Over that time, we’ve seen it goes from single 15bbl batches on the first tanks we used in our Malden space to the new 30bbl tanks we added late in 2017, totaling 39 x 15bbl and 11 x 30bbl batches; thats 915bbls brewed! To make it, 1,342 lbs of Citra hops nobly had to sacrifice themselves in the name of deliciousness. We salute them.
-With batch #4 we started our canning runs, reoccurring every 4 weeks for 2017 and every 3 weeks in 2018. To date, we’ve packed Four Seam into 3,278 cases; that translates to 19,668 four packs or 78,672 cans… wow.
-It’s been a resounding #1 draft poured in our taproom and accounts from all over the state have quickly gone through their kegs, most notably receiving a dedicated line for the 2018 NFL season at Gillette Stadium for Patriots games. I’m not a superstitious guy, but when Four Seam was on draft for the whole season, the Patriots took home the Super Bowl trophy that year… just sayin’.
So what does the future hold for our most popular flagship? We’re going to brew more of it, that’s for sure! It’s the beer that contributes the most to keeping the lights on letting us pursue our passion and creatively push the boundaries of our brewing. Most importantly of all… we all really enjoy Four Seam too! It’s a beer we’ve put under a microscope (mostly figuratively, sometimes literally) for 50 batches! It’s been critiqued and challenged for every batch and I might say we’ve gotten to a point where it’s as dialed in as it could be (but that doesn’t mean we’re getting complacent!). So let me end by saying thank you to everyone that’s picked up a four pack off of the shelf, ordered a pint in a bar (or stadium), or stopped by to have some fresh from though source. You helped us reach this milestone. Here’s to 50 more batches! Cheers! — Lead Brewer Brett Bauer
