717 Collab: a friendship years in the making

Good news, Central PA! The 717 Collaboration Beer is back! We rounded up our friends from Appalachian, Boneshire, Cartel, Pizza Boy, Wolf, Yah Brew, and Zeroday to brew a beer that serves as a reminder of the camaraderie existing among all the breweries in Central Pennsylvania.

This year’s beer is a 4.7% ABV New Zealand-style Pilsner that highlights Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, and Citra hops. Combining the light, malty and crisp attributes of a pilsner with the hop-forward aroma and dry bitterness of an IPA, the beer boasts notes of ripe summer melon, white grape, and bright citrus.

“Some of the brightest ideas have been developed among sharing stories and laughs with friends over beer,” says our co-founding brother and brewmaster John Trogner. “Whether we’re Central PA natives or transplants, we’ve all come together in the 717 with a common goal – to brew great beer and cultivate great friendships.”

During the brew day, we decided to an informal gathering and bottle share in our Tasting Loft. But we didn’t just invite the breweries who participated in the collab. We invited… well, pretty much everybody!

“It was amazing to see so many folks from the industry travel near and far to hang for a while at our brewery,” adds Trogner. “We billed it as part collab, part bottle share, and part general hellraising, and we’re pretty sure we hit on all three of them equally.”

All eight participating breweries will unveil the 717 Collaboration Beer on Friday, July 17. In addition to availability in 16oz. cans throughout Central PA, you can find it on draft at each brewery’s tap room!

“This collaboration truly captures the spirit of community and camaraderie across the PA beer scene,” says Hannah Ison, Director of Brewing Operations at Zeroday. “Getting together with friends from the industry and taking a day to catch up, share some beers, and commiserate every now and then is so important. I love this beer style, and I’m glad we decided to build off last year’s recipe. I can’t wait to share it with everyone!”
