Mia Monét is a Detroit native and has recently become the Grand Slam Champion of both Detroit and Grand Rapids simultaneously. She has only been in the poetry/ Slam scene for a little over a year but in that time she has accomplished a lot. She competed in the 2017 National Poetry Slam (NPS): Last Chance Slam where she took 2nd place and secured a spot on the Last Chance Slam Team “Cross Country Collective”. They went on to finish in the top 30 teams in the nation. Recently, she competed at the 2018 NPS representing West Michigan with The Retort United Slam team, and went on to finish 3rd in Group Piece Finals. She is also the 2018 IWPS rep for Detroit. 2018 marked the release of the first project of her career titled “If Grief Should Be Your Last Gift To Me…”
Mia Monét is a bold personality with a big heart to match. By day she’s a community organizer and activist working with groups like the ACLU, Americorps, Planned Parenthood, and Teen H.Y.P.E. She has a unique way of connecting with people that can be felt through her work.
