The Enghien range is metamorphosed
After the complete makeover of the Silly range and the Forest Abbey realized in 2017, here is the turn of the Enghien range. It’s been a few years since we wanted to improve our image so that it is more related to the high quality of our beers, and more attractive to our customers. Today, almost the entire range of labels and glasses has been renewed. This dramatic change began in 2015 with an external partner: Ex Nihilo led by Luc Vandensteene. A reputable mountain design office that knows the codes of the beer market. The Enghien range is a key range in the craft beers of the Brasserie de Silly. These are Belgian regional high fermentation beers.
A bit of history
The Tennstedt Decroes Brewery in Enghien, founded in 1880 , was bought in 1975 by the Brewery of Silly. Initially the Double Enghien was a special brown beer. In 1986, the Double Enghien blonde appears. Then in the early 90s, a strong blond beer with 9% alcohol volume is brewed: The Double Enghien Christmas.
Enghien, historical heritage
Enghien is a average city of 14,000 inhabitants located in agricultural Hainaut. The city was founded by Enghien Lord Englebert of Enghien in the 11th century. The blazon of the city comes from the arms of Jean d’Enghien, prince-bishop of Liège in the 13th century. This coat of arms is stylized on the new labels of Enghien beers. In 1512, in the belfry of the Saint-Nicolas church, the first carillon of Belgium was installed. It consists of 51 bells including the big bell Mery 3 tons. Enghien constituted the residence of approval of the Luxembourg, then of the Bourbons. Its park was created by the family of the Dukes of Arenberg in 1607. The neoclassical castle in the Enghien Park was built by Baron François Empain at the beginning of the 20th century.
The Brotherhood of the Double Enghien
The brotherhood of the Double Enghien was created in 1984. It regularly organizes chapters and festive activities. The members of the confraternity strive to make known and showcase their beautiful city with a rich historical heritage and make known the quality of Enghien beers in Wallonia and elsewhere. His motto is “In Bono Promptus”: do what’s good and savor what’s good. The Van der Haegen family, owner of the Brasserie de Silly for 6 generations, plays an active role.
A range of tasting beers full of flavors
The Enghien range includes three tasting beers: a blonde, a brunette, and a strong blonde for the winter period. L’Enghien blonde is a high fermentation beer with a volume of alcohol of 7.5%. It is quite aromatic and bitter and has roundness in the middle and back of the mouth. The brown Enghien draws 8% of alcohol volume. A very particular mix of malts gives it a unique aroma. The Enghien d’Hiver is a generous beer that helps to cope with the cold of the season. She juggles both with freshness, warmth and bitterness. From the first sip, it covers the entire palace where it gives off a new invigorating, vanilla and slightly peppery sensation. To enjoy these beers under the best conditions, the Brasserie de Silly has made an exclusive glass that looks like a glass of high-end wine, which may be suitable for both Bordeaux and Burgundy. You will be surprised by the sensations that this glass offers when you taste an Enghien for the first time.
