February 26, 2019 The International Women’s Day Episode; with Pale Lips, Pink Boots Society, Girls+ Skate 613
Friday, March 8 is International Women’s Day 2019. On the occasion of this annual day of celebrating women’s achievements and fighting for gender balance worldwide, the Lagered Tales team focuses on its usual areas of expertise—such as independent music, craft beer and local community—but from an all-female perspective.
First up, one of our lead brewers at Beau’s, Alyssa Kwasny, sits down with the Montreal-based powerpop-punk band Pale Lips to discuss touring, their new album, and being a part of the indie music industry as a band composed of four women.
Next, Beau’s marketing director, Jacquie Severs, interviews Laura Ulrich, small batch brewer at the Southern California-based craft brewery Stone Brewing, and president of the Pink Boots Society. Laura discusses the path that led her to a key role at a renowned brewing company, the Pink Boots Society’s origin story and its mandate, and finally some advice for those who wish to start a career in brewing. The Pink Boots Society is a non-profit organization that supports women working in the brewing industry.
In our last segment, this episode’s co-host, marketing specialist Emma Chapman, speaks with Meaghan Isaacs from Girls+ Skate 613; an Ottawa-based initiative that provides a supportive space for individuals of all ages, identities and abilities to skateboard in a comfortable, encouraging environment. The program facilitates opportunities for those who may feel excluded in a commonly male-dominated scene.
