Field Study: Our bright and slightly hazy summer daydream come true!

We were daydreaming. Feeling the warm sun, counting the wispy clouds and craving our bright seasonal IPA. And that vibrant sky spoke to us. With a fresh accent of blue, the new design of our Field Study Summer IPA matches one of the best times of the year to enjoy beer!

Our bright and slightly hazy summer daydream starts with a portion of rustic pale malt grown and harvested right in our own backyard.

During the recipe development phase, we landed on a grain bill featuring local Rustic Pale Malt. We found just what we were looking for thanks to farmer Glenn Miller of Powells Valley, just north of Harrisburg. Our friends at Double Eagle Malt near Philadelphia kilned Miller’s barley slightly higher than most pale malts, amplifying the complex cereal and slightly nutty notes. It’s been a rewarding experience for everyone at Tröegs to shepherd this beer from grain to glass with the help of our neighbors right here in Pennsylvania.

“We like to use local ingredients because we can easily get out and try them,” says our founding brother and brewmaster John Trogner. “We really do dig getting in the fields and tasting the ingredients and using them in beer.”

The hop combination of Citra, Mosaic, and El Dorado coaxes summery notes of ripe grapefruit, juicy pear, and a hint of melon. With a bright flavor profile, low bitterness, and 6.2% ABV, Field Study appeals to both IPA fans and non-IPA drinkers alike.

“It’s one of those beers that as soon as you crack it, the aroma hits you,” says Trogner.

Field Study Summer IPA is available on draft and in 12-ounce bottles and cans everywhere our beer is sold. Locate some near you using our Brew Finder.
