How to easily turn Beau’s Lamb’s Wool into a comforting warm beverage

How to easily turn Beau’s Lamb’s Wool into a comforting warm beverage January 23, 2018 Make them at home! Ideal for après-ski, après-skate, après-snowmobile – or après-whatever During winter’s coldest months you may feel the desire to just cuddle up at home surrounded by your pets, with a novel in one hand and a warm beverage in the other.

But let’s be honest – you’re a beer drinker through and through. All the “hygge” in the world won’t sway you from your beloved stout to a mug of hot chocolate.

Never fear. Your friends at Beau’s have put together two very comforting warm mulled ale recipes using our latest gruit, Lamb’s Wool, a traditional wassail.

Check out the recipes below, get your hands on the simple ingredients listed, and have ’em ready for when you get back from your outdoor activity of choice: a skate on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa perhaps? Or at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto? Maybe skiing on Mont-Royal?

Or just stay in altogether this coming weekend!

Lamb’s Wool Winter Spiced Warmer:

600ml Lamb’s Wool

2 x mandarin oranges, sliced

1/2 inch fresh ginger, peeled and sliced

2 cinnamon sticks, whole

3 cloves, whole

1/2 star anise (break a whole one in half)

2 TBSP brown sugar

Heat all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Once it comes to a boil, simmer for 5-7 min, remove from heat, let stand 15 min before straining. Re-warm with sliced oranges and ginger if desired.

Lamb’s Wool “Apple Pie” Warm Cocktail:

600 ml Lamb’s Wool

1 apple, sliced

1/2 tsp fresh nutmeg, grated

1 cinnamon stick, whole

2 cloves, whole

2 TBSP maple syrup (the darker the yummier)

1 vanilla bean, scraped

1/2 cup whipped cream, sweetened to taste.

Heat all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Once it comes to a boil, simmer for 5-7 min, remove from heat, let stand 15 min before straining. Re-warm with sliced apples and top with whipped cream if desired.
