The beer is brewed in the Duvel Moortgat Brewery at Breendonk. This beer bears the label Recognized Belgian Abbey beer since 1999. The recipe for the first abbey beer Maredsous 6 was developed in 1949 by Father Attout together with brewery du Faleau in Châtelineau, an amber colored beer of 6%. The registered trademark and recipe are still the property of the abbey.
