Available now in Québec: “Blood Simple” delivers a citrusy taste of sunshine from Beau’s

May 8, 2018 Juice from organic Moro blood oranges and peel from organic California oranges add pithy fruitiness and intense colour to this hazy Belgian-style witbier from Beau’s

Blood Simple, a refreshing blood orange Belgian-style witbier from Beau’s Brewing Co., is now available in Québec on draft and in bottles. This beer was first brewed in 2017 as a limited release for Beau’s feBREWary event, and is back as a full-scale seasonal brand for summer 2018.

Blood Simple pours orange with white foam. The aroma is citrusy with orange pith notes, while the flavour is tart and fruity. The finish is refreshing and juicy.

According to Beau’s Buyer Jenna Bamforth, the beer’s intense orange colour can be attributed to the selection of Moro blood oranges. “There were three types of organic blood oranges available to us for brewing. The darkest of those varietals is Moro, which is what we decided to use in Blood Simple,” explains Bamforth.

Blood Simple is 5.3 % ABV, 30 IBUs, and is best served in a brussels glass at 4-6 C. The Beau’s kitchen team recommends pairing with slow cooked barbecue-flavoured pulled pork, eggs benedict with smoked salmon and lemon hollandaise sauce, summer salad with crisp granny smith apples and cucumbers, warm goat cheese and toasted pine nuts, and dark chocolate panna cotta. It is now available in Québec in Beau’s signature 600 ml bottles, plus on tap at select craft-friendly pubs and restaurants in the province.
