Beau’s Brewing Co. is releasing the third of five brand-new beers for feBREWary, its annual mid-winter craft beer celebration. The beer is Dry Irish Stout, a certified organic 4.1% black ale with interwoven coffee and chocolate flavours. Rich and silky, it suggests sweetness but delivers a dry toasty finish that lends itself easily to another sip. Beau’s Dry Irish Stout will be served on tap and sold by the bottle this week at the 300+ restaurants, pubs and retailers participating in FeBREWary 2019.
The stout beer style evolved from porters during the 19th century in Ireland. Dry Irish Stout is a lower-alcohol rendition of the style that uses roasted barley and a combination of black malts to achieve both its depth of colour and its signature roasted aroma and flavour.
Dry Irish Stout pours nearly black with mahogany highlights and a creamy off-white foam. The aroma offers an appetizing mix of dark chocolate, coffee and cereal. The flavour expands upon the aroma, adding an initial malty sweetness and mild raisin-like fruit. The mouthfeel is full, silky and luscious. The finish is dry with roasty-toasty notes. Beau’s Brewmaster Matthew O’Hara suggests serving this stout in a shaker glass with traditional Irish dishes such as stew or beef pot pie, or with appetizers such as raw oysters or milder blue cheeses.
