There are countless efforts already underway, so we’ve done our best to bring together a list of ways to start helping. Most of these efforts are based in NYC, because that’s where most of us are from.
We’re also proud to support the Restaurant Workers Community Foundation and we hope you’ll join us in helping them aid hospitality workers affected by COVID-19 through direct aid and long-term advocacy. You can learn more about our other efforts right here.

Supporting Bars, Restaurants, Service & Hospitality Workers:
Closures have affected an incredible number of beloved businesses and hardworking people. Some of the funds and resources below are dedicated to providing widespread relief, and are in need of donations. To support your favorite spots directly, check their social media or contact them for the best method. You can learn more about some restaurants and chefs’ efforts on Zagat Stories here.
Order Smart. If your go-to spot offers pickup or delivery, try to contact them through their site or phone to double check their menu and any safety procedures, such as contactless delivery. Your favorite delivery app can help too, with an increasing number offering socially distanced delivery options. If you have time and supplies, try to sanitize high touch surfaces ahead of the delivery. And remember to tip well, and tip cashless if you can– your delivery drivers are putting their health on the line. If you have more questions or concerns over food safety, J. Wait, drinks to go?: The New York State Liquor Authority and state government have temporarily relaxed rules around pickup and delivery alcohol to help businesses improve their revenue. Food sales are legally required with these purchases. We recommend contacting your spots directly to see what they’re offering, from heat-sealed cocktail pouches at Somedays Bar to cans, bottles, and growler fills at BierWax, As Is and many more spots.
USBG Foundation Bartender Emergency Assistance Program: Bartenders affected by closures can apply for a grant from the United States Bartenders Guild Bartender Emergency Assistance Program, and anyone can donate.
Service Workers Coalition: This new coalition aims to support sick or quarantined service workers through direct aid and monetary donations. Email serviceworkerscoalition@gmail.com to volunteer or learn how to donate.
Restaurant Workers Community Foundation Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund: The RWCF is allocating their donations to be 50% to individual restaurant workers, 25% non-profit groups, and 25% towards providing no-interest loans to restaurants to get back up and running.
GoFundMe: Many businesses are setting up GoFundMe pages to raise money for their former or current employees. Contact your regular spots and see if they have a fund set up, or need help doing so.
NYC Small Business Grants: On March 8, Mayor de Blasio announced a grant program to help soften the blow of Covid-19 for small businesses in NYC. Businesses under 100 employees that experience a 35% or more reduction in revenue due to the pandemic are eligible for zero-interest loans of up to $75,000; businesses under five employees are eligible for a grant to cover 40% of payroll cost over the next two months to aid in retaining and supporting employees. LEE Initiative Restaurant Workers Relief Program: The LEE Initiative will channel donations by city to help restaurant workers in crisis pay for food and keep up with other costs of living.
COVID-19 Food Hub NYC: The Food Education Fund has established this hub to help inform families and workers in need of food during this time. Donations of food, supplies, and money are accepted, and volunteer opportunities are available.
Supporting Healthcare Providers, Boroughs & Neighborhoods:
If you don’t know where to start, start at home– checking with your neighbors can go a long way. Numerous volunteer organizations and local listings have started to spring up, often facilitated by Google Sheets or similar shared software. Check out our list below and let us know of any we’ve missed:
Hospital & Healthcare Supplies: Healthcare providers are facing extreme shortages of necessary protective gear, masks, and other equipment. If you have any to spare, check with your local healthcare center for donation requirements. You can also join the #MillionMaskChallenge and put your sewing skills to work creating masks or donate fabric. Start with these templates from Joann Fabrics.
Feed the Frontline: Grassroots volunteer organizations connect restaurant kitchens affected by shutdowns with frontline healthcare workers in need of meals. You can donate or volunteer by Googling “Feed The Frontline” and your city.
Free Meals from the NYC Department of Education: The DOE is committed to providing three free meals a day for any New Yorker who needs them, available at 400 hubs throughout NYC.
Help Now NYC: The New York state government has organized a page specifically to inform and prepare New York City residents, including how to help, places to donate, how to join the Medical Reserve Corps, updates on agency suspensions, and more.
NYC Open Food Bank Map: A Google Map of food banks, mobile pantries, senior support and other resources throughout NYC.
Bronx Community Resources: Google Doc list of borough-wide support, including breaking news, housing, food, and more.
Support Gowanus Businesses: Ongoing crowd-sourced list of businesses and services available in the Gowanus area.
