The Oud Beersel Oude Kriek won gold in the category “Fruit Beer” and Oud Beersel Oude Geuze won silver in the category ‘Lambic and Gueuze. It is not the first time the brewery from the Flemish-Brabant Beersel is awarded such victory. Earlier this year Oud Beersel both won silver at the World Beer Cup and the World Beer Awards.

The Brussels Beer Challenge is a fast growing international beer competition. In total 725 beers (against 592 in 2013) were registered this year, of which 200 beers from 79 Belgian breweries (across 188 beers from 68 Belgian breweries in 2013).

When Gert Christiaens of Oud Beersel heard the news, he said: “We revived Oud Beersel brewery nine years ago to safeguard the traditional lambic beers, with respect for tradition, quality and craft. Awards like these are also a great encouragement to continue on the same path. I am very proud of our Oude Geuze and Oude Kriek. ”
