Gold for Beau’s, Silver for Halcyon at 2018 CBAs

May 30, 2018 Beau’s Zwickel and Halcyon Barrel House’s Waking Dreams earn medals at 16th Canadian Brewing Awards in Halifax

Beau’s Brewing Co. and its offshoot, Halcyon Barrel House, each earned a medal for their beer at the 2018 Canadian Brewing Awards, held Saturday May 26 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Beau’s took home a Gold in the Kellerbier/Zwickel category for Zwickel, a German-style auburn lager. Halcyon Barrel House was awarded Silver in the Belgian-Style Sour Ale – Fruit Lambic category for Waking Dreams, a barrel-aged sour gold with haskap.

Now in their 16th year, the Canadian Brewing Awards (CBAs) is Canada’s national competition for judging the quality of Canadian manufactured beer. It is open to Canadian majority-owned breweries only, and is conducted using BJCP-sanctioned blind tasting to determine the best beers in 55 categories. This is the 14th CBA award for Beau’s since it first won Gold for Lug Tread Lagered Ale in 2010. It is the 1st for Halcyon Barrel House, which celebrated its first anniversary a day before picking up the award. (A complete list of awards for Beau’s is published here.)

For those eager to taste the winning beers, Beau’s will be releasing Zwickel in Ontario and Québec as part of its Winter Mix pack in November 2018. Waking Dreams was limited-edition and is no longer available, but Halcyon Barrel House recently released another sour gold, Shifting Sands: Raspberry, as well as an anniversary blend called Year One; both are available to buy from the Tap Room at Beau’s in Vankleek Hill.
