Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck partners up with Eneco for green energy

From canned beer to a roof full of solar panels: as Europe’s most modern brewery, we are reducing our ecological footprint step by step. For our most recent investment, we turned to energy supplier Eneco.

Our brewery complex in Izegem is called Bierkasteel, which translates as ‘Beer Castle’. This modern building is the eye-catcher of the site and houses the brewery itself, as well as a brasserie, a brewery shop and several event venues. In a nutshell, quite a few spaces that we have to supply with energy.

That is why we joined forces with Eneco Solar for the installation of solar panels on part of the roof of our Bierkasteel.

  • Number of solar panels: 1,055
  • Area covered: 5,000 m² = 13 basketball pitches
  • Annual yield: 350 MWh
  • More than enough to supply energy to at least 100 households

Admire this project with impressive results for yourself in the video above.

On the ground floor, too, we look to the future with a focus on sustainability.

  • 6 charging stations for electric cars
  • 6 charging stations for e-bikes

Given that electric vehicles are becoming the norm, we will continue to expand the number of charging stations in the years ahead.
