Registration open: Beau’s 5K for Ovarian Cancer Canada

May 8, 2018 Local craft brewery Beau’s is raising money to fight ovarian cancer, by hosting the 4th annual Beau’s 5K for Ovarian Cancer Canada. The event will take place in Vankleek Hill on Saturday, July 7th. Registration for the race officially kicks off today, May 8, in honour of World Ovarian Cancer Day.

The Beau’s 5K for Ovarian Cancer Canada began as a grassroots friends-and-family event, inspired four years ago by Vankleek Hill local Ashley Cowan and her personal battle with ovarian cancer. The event has grown each year, and has raised more than $45,000 for Ovarian Cancer Canada since its inception. Last year’s event hosted 241 participants, and organizers at Beau’s are prepared to accommodate an even bigger turn-out for 2018.

The registration fee is $40, and 100% goes to Ovarian Cancer Canada. Beau’s will reward thirsty runners and walkers with a complimentary glass of Lug Tread, as well as a special race-day souvenir item. The Beau’s patio and kitchen will be open a bit earlier than usual for the event, at 11 am.

The course is an out-and-back which will take place on Newton Road in Vankleek Hill, starting from and returning to Beau’s Brewery. Distances are a 5-kilometer run beginning at 10 am, or a walk of 3 or 5 kilometers beginning at 11 am (distances will be clearly marked on the course). Beau’s will be adding some extra fun touches including numbered bibs, an announcer and a big finish line to this year’s event, through a partnership with The Running Room.

Ovarian cancer arises from the cells within the ovaries and fallopian tubes, and all women are at risk of developing it. It is a difficult to diagnose and deadly cancer. The Beau’s 5K for Ovarian Cancer Canada will be raising important funds to help women with ovarian cancer and those who are at risk of the disease.

To register for the Beau’s 5K for Ovarian Cancer Canada, or to support with a donation if you cannot attend, go to www.beaus.ca/ovarianrun. Race organizers also welcome spectators to come out and cheer walkers and runners on July 7 in Vankleek Hill. The event is rain or shine!
