You probably know the typical American sports bars from movies and series. Around the bar everyone is glued to the screen to follow that one sports match.
“We also want to bring that concept to Ostend with the Filou Sportsbar, but with a more Belgian approach”, creator Jürgen Vanpraet starts. Inside, the building radiates an industrial atmosphere: “We furnish it cozy so that everyone can feel at home here.”
Conviviality trumps thanks to:
- The food corner where you can enjoy tasty tapas and finger food;
- The bar area where you can watch sports matches on different television screens;
- The Chesterfield-style lounge area where you can relax;
- A separate darts zone, the café sport of the moment;
- The spacious, sunny terrace where you can enjoy the sea air.

The focus of the Filou Sportsbar is, as the name suggests, on sports. “The idea is that you can follow live sports matches here. With a summer full of sports events – think of the European Football Championship, the Olympic Games and the Tour de France – we are already off to a fantastic start!”
Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck is the main partner of the Filou Sportsbar. “The bond between Ostend and the specialty beer Filou is extremely strong. It therefore seemed only logical to us that the Sportsbar should bear the name of the Belgian regional beer”, explains Jürgen.
