Strong Beer Month Returns!

The arrival of February 1st means the return of Strong Beer Month. In partnership with our good pals at Magnolia Gastropub & Brewery, this is our 15th annual homage to high gravity beers and your chance to enjoy the special release of 12 different BIG beers, six from each brewery.

We’ve been doing this since 2003. Wow! So this year, we’ve gathered a roster of our Strong Beer Month “Greatest Hits,” as well as an OG collaboration from the brewers who helped pioneer the Bay Area into the craft scene it is today.

What will the 21A be serving you this year?

Sailor’s Warning (Barley Wine): Brewed with citrusy American hops and over 2000 lbs of malt, this beer has big flavors of caramel melding with candied orange, dark sweet cherries and a warming finish. Enjoy by a fireplace or on a 21A bar stool. Respect this beer. 11.7% abv – 76 ibu

Bock Solid (Weizenbock): This beer has a kick to it, as its name implies. Our German-style weizenbock is brewed with a big charge of wheat malt and a huge aromatic punch of ripe banana, clove flavors and aromas. The wheat and Munich malts add notes of biscuit and toast with a slightly sweet finish. This beer is a Billy goat kick in your glass.

Coco Nutz (Imperial Porter): Chocolate and coconut have always had a magical relationship from candy bars to beers. Our imperial porter has rich harmonious notes of dark and milk chocolate and a savory nuttiness from a touch of in-house toasted coconut. Unwrap this one, you’ll thank us. 9.5% abv – 38 ibu

Strawberry Mountain Jam (Imperial Cream Ale): An untraditional American cream ale. This light-hearted heavyweight brings the crispness of a sunny winter’s day mixed with the thrilling exuberance of downhill skiing. Boasting a beautiful bounty of strawberry jam flavor, layered nicely on top of a clean, crisp finish, you’ll feel like you’re shredding those mountain slopes. Slay the pow! 8.0% abv – 25 ibu

Big DIPA (DIPA):  You love IPAs, well so do we. The sky is the limit with this one. Dry, hoppy and strong, this beer is a true California west coast double IPA. Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Ekuanot hops add a bouquet of pine, sweet citrus and a charge of exotic fruit. Star gazers unite! 10.0% abv – 70 ibu

2001 OG Brewers’ Collab (Strong Ale) **Feb 3rd Release**:  What happens when you get S.F. brewers from 2001 together? Well magic of course. A ruby red, deliciously awesome glass of SF beer nostalgia.  Brewed with Admiral Malting barley, a local Bay Area malting company on Alameda Island, this strong ale was fermented with London ale yeast and brewed with floral English hops. Indubitably! 8% abv – 45 ibu

Cheers!
Shaun O’Sullivan and senior brewer, Jaron Shepherd
