The Best Breweries In Greenville, SC

There’s a vibrant scene in Greenville, South Carolina for arts, food, and beer thanks to relatively recent efforts to revitalize the area. Because of that, business is booming, and so are some of the best breweries in the city. Such as:

  • Brewery 85
  • Fireforge
  • Liability Brewing
  • Yee-Haw Brewing Company
  • Birds Fly South Ale Project
  • Thomas Creek Brewery
  • Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant

Each one has its own charm and some good drinks, so it’s definitely worth a trip to one (or all) if possible.

Greenville, South Carolina is a prime example of what the Upstate is all about. They’ve been hard at work revitalizing the city, and it shows! Not only has it prompted other nearby cities to do the same, but it also opens up the doors for a highly successful series of small establishments that the big chain stores pale in comparison to. And where mom-and-pop shops thrive, so does the food and drink!

The city of Greenville itself is home to a vibrant selection of breweries, with even more in the surrounding areas. Many of these breweries also source from local restaurants too, but who doesn’t want a good beer fresh off the tap?

Brewery 856 Whitlee Ct., Greenville, SC 29607
(864) 558-0104Brewery 85 is a craft microbrewery that has a special talent for adding southern charm to traditional German brewing techniques. They also have an entire building across the street from the taproom for events that’s able to accommodate up to 300 people.

They have around 6 beers on tap at any given time, though there is a bit of a rotation for seasonal flavors. The 864 Weizen is a good, classic wheat beer meant to be palatable to a wide range of tastes. Just be ready for the aroma of bananas, cloves, and yeast!

Fireforge Crafted Beer311 E Washington St., Greenville, SC 29601
(864) 300-4809Fireforge has that homey, warm vibe down pat. It’s in the heart of downtown, complete with rooftop seating and 15 house-brewed beers on tap. To top it off, they also offer house-made or locally sourced snacks and sandwiches on every day but Monday. It makes them a good option for an eventful evening, date night, or to stop in before a show at the Peace Center.

It takes someone a little bit bonkers to get excited about a pale ale made with ghost peppers, but if that sounds like an exciting venture rather than a horrifying prospect, definitely check out Perlin’s Ghost Pepper Pale when it’s on tap. It’s not actually as terrifying as it seems real, but be ready for a bit of a kick from the fresh, locally sourced peppers regardless.

Liability Brewing109 W Stone Ave., Greenville, SC 29609
(864) 920-1599Liability Brewing started out so small, it wasn’t even in a garage. The vibe of their current little establishment tries hard to reflect the easygoing and fun-loving nature of their founders…which is also evident in the punny and silly names for their beers.

One thing they have that is not all that common down south is their Ukrainian Golden Ale, Sunflowers Will Grow. It has the aroma of wildflower honey, light citrus, and wheat bread while tasting sweet like cherry candy, orange spiced mule, and brown sugar.

Yee-Haw Brewing Company307 E McBee Ave., Greenville, SC 29601
(864) 605-7770Yee-Haw has multiple locations, but not just in Greenville or South Carolina. So, if the name sounds familiar to the Tennesseans out there, that’s for good reason! This is actually their only location outside of Tennessee and Greenville is happy to have them.

If possible, try to stop by somewhere in September or October for a taste of their Yee-Haw Oktoberfest Märzen. It’s definitely something to look forward to during the height of fall. Plus, the cans are really fun looking.

Birds Fly South Ale Project1320 Hampton Ave Ext., Greenville, SC 29601
(864) 412-8825Birds Fly South has only been around since 2016, but they have a massive reputation for their brews. They really try to blend their brewing styles between old-fashioned, wild beer methods and new materials, ideas, and styles just because. It was born out of a passion project and it really keeps up that feeling.

For a hoppy, kiwi blend with a bitter backend, try out Dollar Bird. Kiwi isn’t usually a flavor that really comes up often in a brew, so it’s definitely something to try for a little something different.

Thomas Creek Brewery2054 Piedmont Hwy., Greenville, SC 29605
(864) 605-1166Thomas Creek is a little family-owned place that handcrafts beers focusing on using Blue Ridge Mountain water in their brews. They also offer lots of sizes, from half a pint all the way up to 64oz!

They’ve got some awesome craft brews on tap, some good food, and plenty of non-alcoholic drinks for those that need it. But for those looking for a tasty red ale, check out their Appalachian Amber Ale. It’s rich, smooth, and smokey to go with its full-bodied flavor.

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant741 Haywood Rd., Greenville, SC 29607
(864) 568-7009Across the street from the Haywood Mall lies this little place with top-tier food and great drinks. Their pretzels come highly recommended, way more than the little shops in the mall. So prepare for the shopping spree or wind down with it with some tasty food and some good drinks, but a little bit further away from the crowd.

Iron Hill features their Iron Hill Light Lager right on the front of their site, and with good reason. It’s a very light beer but still crisp enough to showcase the malt and hops. It’s a good beginner beer or for those times when something a little softer is needed.
